Wheels & Thrills 2.0: A Night of Automotive Innovation, Passion, and Performance at DSIC

On May 24, 2025, Despark International College (DSIC) hosted Wheels & Thrills 2.0, the second edition of its signature automotive carnival. Jointly organized by DSIC and the Student Representative Council (SRC), this upgraded celebration transformed the campus into a high-energy arena of creativity, technology, and speed—running from afternoon into an electrifying night.

Building on the success of the inaugural daytime-only Wheels & Thrills 1.0, this year’s event introduced an immersive night-time experience. With synchronized lighting, dynamic soundscapes, and stunning visual effects, the atmosphere pulsed with excitement, drawing a diverse crowd of automotive enthusiasts, industry guests, students, and members of the public.

A major highlight of the event was the Student’s Final Year Project showcase, where hands-on projects took center stage. These included a custom-built Go-Kart, an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV), a Fully Electric Formula-style Concept Car, and an Off-road Buggy ride experience. Each project demonstrated the students’ technical prowess, creativity, and collaborative spirit.

Complementing the main exhibits was the newly launched Robotics Section, where DSIC students presented their self-designed automated model vehicles—integrating mechanical design, electronic control, and software programming. This section exemplified DSIC’s interdisciplinary approach to education, merging hardware and code to prepare students for future-forward careers.

The Electric Vehicle Technology area also attracted strong interest. DSIC lecturers introduced the college’s industry-aligned EV training curriculum and cutting-edge facilities, highlighting DSIC’s role in nurturing the next generation of professionals in sustainable mobility and new energy vehicle technology.

To bridge the gap between theory and practice, DSIC instructors led live hands-on demonstrations, such as tire replacement workshops, where visitors could participate directly and apply their learning in a real-world context.

Meanwhile, the Student Representative Council hosted an exciting Car Competition, awarding winners in five popular categories: Best Interior, Best Exterior, Cleanest Engine Bay, People’s Choice, and Winner of Pop & Bang. Each entry was a unique expression of car culture, featuring bold styling, creative modifications, and the unmistakable sound of performance.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments was the official launch of the DSIC Motorsport Team. The newly established racing team had already made its mark earlier this year at the Formula Student Malaysia (FSM) competition, proudly securing second place overall. To commemorate this achievement, the Chairman of FSM was invited to officiate the ribbon-cutting ceremony—marking a major milestone in DSIC’s motorsport education journey.

As night fell, the event concluded with a dazzling fireworks display and a high-energy parade of modified cars. With engines roaring and lights flashing under the night sky, the final showcase blended motion, sound, and spectacle—leaving the audience in awe and celebration.

Wheels & Thrills 2.0 not only spotlighted the technical achievements and innovation of DSIC students, but also reinforced the college’s mission to build a vibrant, inclusive, and globally minded automotive community. With its ongoing commitment to industry-relevant training and experiential learning, DSIC continues to drive the future of automotive engineering education in Malaysia and beyond.
